NBC Supporting The Hawk Conservancy Trust
NBC Bird & Pest Solutions continues to demonstrate its commitment to caring for wildlife by supporting the Hawk Conservancy Trust’s (HCT) Nest Box Challenge.
The aim of the project is to install 106 kestrel nest boxes in two designated areas of the UK between 13-14 October this year (2012). The boxes will be monitored and nest box productivity recorded for four years, with the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) ringing any chicks born within that period. 100 participants will be split into ten teams of five on each day, and each team will be accompanied by an HCT representative, who will take them to locations within the project area to erect nest boxes.
The Nest Box Challenge is part of the HCT’s on-going ‘Caring for Kestrels’ conservation programme. HCT president Chris Packham, well-known as one of the faces of BBC’s Springwatch and Autumnwatch, will be hosting the event.
Kestrels were once Britain’s commonest raptor but numbers have declined by 25-50% in some areas of the UK, placing it on the amber list of Birds of Conservation Concern. The drop in numbers has been attributed to a combination of competition, predation, pesticides and a lack of suitable nest sites.

Attleborough to Andover Cycle Challenge
A team of intrepid riders will be setting off from NBC Bird & Pest Solutions head office in Attleborough to complete a 170 mile cycle ride to Andover, Hampshire on the 4th October 2012. The journey will take the team from the relatively flat Norfolk countryside through to the rolling hills of Hampshire; a trip they aim to complete in three days.
The NBC team consisting of John Dickson and Duncan Jones are undertaking the journey to raise awareness and funds for the Hawk Conservancy Trust. Steve Dale will be joining them along the way, completing his own 90+mile cycle ride from Bromley to Andover.
